Dr. Martin KunathOffer
Dresden Materials Research Network (MFD)
research category: engineering science
research discipline: Materials science
Registered non-profit association of 20 university, extra-university and industrial research institutions of the Dresden region.
Institutes of Leibniz, Fraunhofer and Max Planck Societies and Institutes of TU-Dresden The MFD-member institutes represent a broad variety of materials sciences investigating all kinds of metals, polymers, ceramics and laminates. These materials are examined, modified, combined and developed further, often to the prototype.
research focus: One important focus of the MFD is to support the industrial development. The MFD-member institutes cooperate with regional and national business in many kinds of projects and different ways. In addition to large, well-known firms, SMEs in particular are meant to be supported. To this end the MFD organizes the annual Dresden Materials Research Days, which are especially dedicated to the dialogue between business and science. It is hoped that this will lead to further intensification of the knowledge and technology transfer and to a subsequent involvement of firms in the network.
research subjects: Among other things the MFD promotes collaboration between the institutes in cooperative projects, large investments and the transfer of research results into practice. More over it supports their efforts in developing young scientific talents and informs the public about major projects and results of Dresden materials research.
