The DWA is specifically committed to the development of safe and sustainable water management. As a politically and economically independent organization, the DWA is a specialist in the sectors water management, sewage, waste, and soil protection. It is the largest European federation active in this field. Due to its professional expertise in the formulation, supervision, and implementation of rules and regulations, education, and information, the DWA assumes a very specific and special position. Its approximately 14,000 members represent experts and executives from municipalities, universities and
colleges, engineering offices, governmental agencies, and commercial enterprises.

Competences and Primary Activities:

The DWA national association in Sachsen / Thüringen supports approximately 1,000 association members in Saxony and Thüringen and is mainly active in the area of education, that is, training, exchanges of experience and neighbourhoods.
• Wastewater treatment systems and canal areas Training for operators of wastewater treatment plants and drainage systems
• Water bodies – neighbourhoods Training and exchange of experience on issues of maintaining and developing water bodies naturally
• Basic courses: Basic course for wastewater treatment plant operators, basic
course for drainage system operators, laboratory courses, wastewater management for non-water managers, expertise on sludge removal from domestic wastewater treatment systems
• Advanced courses: Technical expertise on domestic wastewater system maintenance, Process engineering and operational management of wastewater treatment plants, P and N elimination, sewage sludge treatment, microscopy, safety officer for water bodies
• Exchanges of experience for municipalities and associations with special
purposes, engineering offices, wastewater laboratories
• Technical conferences and field trips
